Where are those clutch Angels?

What happened to the Los Angeles Angels team that swept the Red Sox in the divisional series? Their defense makes key errors. Their closer can't hold a lead, and the clutch hits are few.

The Angels left 16 runners on base in their 4-3, 13-inning loss to the Yankees Saturday night (Sunday morning). Bobby Abreu, who crushed the Sox, left 5 on base; Vlad Guerrero, the star of Game 3 in Boston, left 8.

Then again, maybe it's the pressure applied by the opponent that is makingthe Angels fold. The Yankees are getting runners on. They are making key pitches, and the clutch hits - like Alex Rodriguez's 11th-inning, game-tying home run.

The Red Sox did not play well against the Angels. The Yankees are not letting their opportunity slip away.

As for the Red Sox, they are making plans for next year and beyond. In www.pressherald.com/sports is one look at what they might be thinking.
