Fenway to host Hockey East doubleheader

Pack your parkas and mittens for another outdoor hockey game in Boston. Hockey East announced today that Fenway Park will host a college hockey doubleheader Jan. 8 - Northeastern will face New Hampshire at 4 p.m. in a women's game, while Boston College will face Boston University at 7:30 p.m. in a men's game, the 248th meeting between BC and BU in the "Green Line Rivarly."

(That same night Maine will host Merrimack at Alfond Arena. It might not be much warmer indoors in Orono than outside in Boston.)

NESN will broadcast the men's game, the third outdoor NCAA hockey game to be played outdoors. Michigan and Michigan State played at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing, Mich., on Oct. 6, 2001, and Wisconsin and Ohio State met at Green Bay's Lambeau Field on Feb. 11, 2006.

The doubleheader at Fenway Park won't be the only outdoor college hockey event this season. Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wis., will host the Camp Randall Hockey Classic on Feb. 6.

Lindsay Kramer, an NHL.com correspondent and the Syracuse Post-Standard's Syracuse Crunch beat writer, caught up with former Maine goalie Mike Morrison on TheAHL.com. Morrison recently signed with the Albany River Rats after spending the past two seasons in Europe, an experience that he didn't seem too crazy about.

The pit stops along the way can run hot and cold, though. Morrison
struggled with the cultural differences overseas and grew a little
weary worrying about the consistency of his paycheck. He pondered
giving it another try, but the hemming and hawing stopped when the
River Rats came through with their offer.

"In America, we are very fortunate," Morrison said. "It (playing
abroad) just didn't sit well with me. I'm really happy (now). I have
nothing to complain about."
