Maine Moose teams eye titles

The Maine Moose Super Elite and Elite teams are in the International Junior Hockey League finals this weekend. The No. 2 Super Elites (31-12-1) will play a best-of-three series against the No. 1 New England Stars (37-6-1) in Dracut, Mass., beginning Friday night at 8. The Stars won six of their seven meetings with the Moose this season. The Moose Elites will host the Springfield Jr. Pics in a two-game series (aggregate scoring) that begins Saturday at 8 p.m. Game 2 is Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Both games will be played at the Kennebec Ice Arena. "(The New England Stars) were a machine early in the year, but we've caught up with them," said Moose Super Elite coach Glenn Carey, whose team has won 12 of its last 13 games. "Considering the way we've played the last few weeks, I think we have a 50-50 shot at this thing, maybe even better." The Moose offensively are led by Jamie Osborne (97 points), Dan Dearing (88) and Blaine Cardali (81). Richmond native Andy Harrington has 54 points while former Winslow forward Sean Bourgeois has 22. Forward Brett Glasheen has added 16 points in 17 games. Moose goalie CJ White led the IJHL with a .914 save percentage. He has split the goaltending duties Zach Parent, a former Messalonskee standout. "CJ from Day 1 really solidified us through our ups and downs," Carey said. "He has kept us above water." Carey added that Parent plans to attend the University of Southern Maine in the fall. Parent hopes to play for the Huskies. "I think he's ready," Carey said.
