Senator keeps pushing autism specialty plate

A Bangor Democrat is publicizing a Web site supporting a proposed specialty license plate that will be taken up by lawmakers this session. Senator Joe Perry said in a press release Thursday -- Autism Awareness Day -- the Web site, www.autismplate.org, was created in order to promote awareness of the brain disorder to the public. Maine has the second highest rate of diagnosed autism per capita in the United States. "There is no cure for autism, so we must, as a community, become aware of the challenges faced by children and families with autism," Perry said in the press release.
